National Rosé Day Is Saturday! Celebrate with a Strawberry-Rosé Cocktail

Strawberry-Rose Cocktail. Try it with a French rosé: Whispering Angel Rosé from Provence.

Let’s face it. These national this-and-that days aren’t exactly official. But they are fun excuses for enjoying your favorite things, or perhaps things you don’t enjoy that often (I have, for instance, been known to snag a donut on National Donut Day).

And I certainly won’t say “no” to a Rosé wine cocktail on National Rosé Day, which is Saturday, June 11.

Local strawberries are in season in many places right now. Take advantage.

Sure you could simply drink a beautiful rosé on National Rosé Day, but readers recently told me they were looking for French cocktail recipes—so I decided to add a cocktail angle to the festivities.

This recipe hitchhikes from a recipe sent to me from the folks at Whispering Angel Rosé*. Their recipe was a striking shaker cocktail of vodka, rosé, blackberries, and honey syrup.

That certainly sounded lovely …. but right now, our farmers’ markets here in the Great Midwest are exploding with strawberries. To take advantage, I came up with this pretty sip:

Strawberry Rosé Cocktail

3 strawberries
1.5 ounces vodka
.5 ounce lime juice
.25 ounce simple syrup
3 ounces Whispering Angel Rosé*
Mint spring and a few thinly sliced strawberries, for garnish

Place strawberries into a shaker and muddle. Add the vodka, lime juice, and simple syrup into the shaker. Shake with ice and strain into rocks glass over fresh ice. Top with Rosé and garnish with mint and a couple strawberry slices.

A lovely South-of-France rosé for the summer.

*About Whispering Angel Rosé: This rosé from the South of France is a widely available and well-reviewed Provence rosé that retails for around $25 (much less at places like Walmart) It’s zippy, crisp, and dry but with enough red-fruit flavors to know that you’re drinking something made (primarily) from red grapes (though there is some Vermentino—a white grape—in the mix). Bright and refreshing, it’s great for summer sipping.

Disclosure: The Whispering Angel folks were kind enough to send me a bottle for review. All opinions are my own.
