Restaurant Reviewer

I served as The Des Moines Register's chief food critic from 1997 to 2012, and wrote over 750 reviews for this paper. Currently, I cover the Des Moines dining scene for dsm Magazine, a lifestyle magazine in Des Moines. Cookbook Author

I am the author of the book, The Bonne Femme Cookbook: Simple, Splendid Food That French Every Day (Harvard Common Press). In this book, I combined my expertise as a cookbook editor and food writer with my knowledge of  easy, everyday French cooking gleaned through 20 years of extended summer stays in France.

Since 1994, I have served as an editor and/or feature writer on numerous cookbooks, magazines, and websites, many of them within the Better Homes and Gardens family of publications.
